IMPROVED WATER ACCESS TO FARMERS
• 31 long pending Major and Medium Irrigation Projects completed under PMKSY-Additional irrigation potential of 20 lakhs ha. Created-Command Area Development over 20.5 lakhs ha. Developed.
• Special program to complete 91 Irrigation projects with estimated cost of Rs. 13652 Cr. In drought prone districts of Maharashtra to create irrigation potential of 3.77 lakh ha.
• “Relining of Sirhind Feeder and Rajasthan Feeder” twin canals with estimated cost of Rs. 1977 Cr. Stabilizing and improving irrigation in 167835 ha. in Rajasthan and Punjab.
• Central Assistance of Rs. 6800 Cr. Released for the ongoing Polavaram Irrigation Project.
REVIVED PROJECTS, PROSPERING FARMERS
• North Koel project stalled for 25 years revived with the approved cost of Rs. 1622 Cr. providing irrigation benefits to additional 39801 ha. In the drought prone areas of Bihar and Jharkhand.
• Shahpur Kandi Dam project stalled for years revived with the approved cost of Rs. 2716 Cr. creating irrigation potential of 37173 ha. in J & K and Punjab besides generation of 206 MW electricity.
• Agreement reached between basin States on long pending projects-“Lakhwar Multipurpose Project” and “Renukaji Multipurpose Project”.
INDUS WATER TREATY
• Projects such as Sawalkote, Kirthai-II, Kiru, Kwar, Sachkhas, Shahpur Kandi and Ujh cleared to ensure accelerate development of India’s rights on water resources under Indus Waters Treaty.
GROUND WATER AVAILABILITY
• Around 9.23 Lakh sq.km covered under the National Aquifer Mapping Program to facilitate ground water management.
• Construction of 419 arsenic free water wells benefitting about 32 lakhs population in arsenic affected areas of UP, Bihar and West Bengal.
DAM REHABILITATION
• Rs.3466 Cr. Program to improve safety and operational performance of around 200 Dams.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION
• The Sardar Sarovar Project completed through resolution of various litigations resulting in additional irrigation benefits of 8 lakh ha. and drinking water security to about 4 crore people in the drought prone areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
GENERATING AWARENESS
• National Water Awards distributed in 14 categories to 82 recipients. Awardees include States, Districts, Urban Local Bodies, Non- Governmental Organisations, Schools, Village Panchayats, Industries, Newspapers, TV Channels, Resident Welfare Associations.
• “Pani ki Chitti”, short stories on water conservation, broadcasted thrice a week on radio channels.
